Most airlines are now charging for your first and second checked bag.
We have put together an easy to read list
of what each of the domestic US airlines are charging for your
first, second and third bag.
Also part of this list are the requirements each airline has for
traveling with your skis or snowboard equipment, as well as the prices they charge for overweight or oversized ski or snowboard equipment.
We will be updating this list throughout the upcoming ski/ride
season as the airlines change their fees and baggage requirements.

| Ski & Snowboard Bag Allowance Requirements |
If checked in separately, each item within the sports equipment category is considered a piece of baggage that counts towards your checked baggage allowance and is subject to all the rules and restrictions that apply to checked baggage. An excess piece fee will be collected at the airport for each piece that exceeds the free baggage allowance on an Air Canada or Air Canada Jazz flight.
Each of the following is considered an individual item when packed separately: one pair of skis (snow or water), one snowboard, one set of poles, one pair of boots, one pair of skates, or a single slalom.
Skis and poles or snowboard must be packaged in a rigid and/or hardshell container specifically designed for shipping. Two pairs of skis packed together are counted as two items.
Passengers are asked to pre-register all sports equipment (by checking the "Travelling with sports equipment" box after entering your name and seat preference) at the time of booking or by calling Air Canada Call Center. By registering sports equipment prior to check-in, passengers will benefit from applicable waivers on:
The oversize fee for skis, snowboards; and
the excess piece fee(s) for ski and snow boots (when carried along with skis or snowboard)
Customers who elect not to register their sporting equipment will be subject to all applicable excess piece and oversize fees when checking in at the airport on the day of departure.

The following items may be checked at no charge (unless a charge is specified), and will count toward the two-piece free baggage allowance for each fare-paying passenger. Overweight and/or oversize charges may apply.
Snow or water skis are accepted when enclosed in a suitable container. Southwest Airlines provides free plastic bags for ski equipment. These bags are used to prevent the various components of ski equipment from becoming separated. The skis will be conditionally accepted unless they are being transported in a hard, plastic case or standard ski bag. Snow ski equipment consists of one pair each of skis, ski poles, and boots. Water-ski equipment includes one pair of skis and one life preserver or vest. Snowboard equipment includes one snowboard and one pair of boots.
When substituting ski equipment for a free bag, Southwest Airlines allows up to two bags (containing one set of snow skis, ski poles, and ski boots) to count as one item, even if they are packed and tagged separately. (overweight charges may still apply.)
