Recreational Activities

In addition to the Woodward Barn and the Athletic Club, Copper Mountain’s other activities include a tubing hill, featuring banked turns, near the East Village. It’s open to all ages, as long as everyone rides their own (so, little ones who are so little they need to be on someone’s lap will need to come back after they eat their veggies!). Grab your tickets at the East Village Guest Service location after signing your waiver.

West Lake in the middle of Center Village is open for ice skating between 10:00am and 9:00pm.

Snowmobiling is also available around Copper Mountain and Frisco. Take a tour or explore at your own pace!

Outside of Copper, Dogsled rides are available through two companies in Leadville, 23 mi to the south, Winterhawk Dogsled Adventures and Alpine Adventures Dogsledding. If you don’t have a rental car, Alpine Adventures offers transportation from both Copper Mountain and Frisco, but you’ll need to call ahead instead of booking online.

Other Activities

Massage

For less serious aches, you can find massage and spa services at the Copper Mountain Athletic Club and Summit Massage and Wellness, both in the Center Village. The Athletic Club also offers a pool, hot tub, saunas, steam rooms, and a weight room with free weights and Cybex machine, cardio machines, and racquetball courts.

Ski School

Copper also runs its own ski and snowboard school, complete with award-winning instructors!

Youth packages are available for a full day (9:30am-3:00pm), although there’s an early pickup option at 1:00pm. For kids 3 to 5 years old, there are no more than five students per group and for ages 6 through 17, the most in a group is seven - so you know your kids are getting some quality instructional attention. Lessons include lift tickets, lunch and a snack, an intro session at the Woodward Barn, plus discounted rental rates. At the end of the day, you can follow your youngster’s adventures thanks to GPS tracking. There’s a 20% discount if you book more than 3 days in advance, which is a pretty good idea since they don’t guarantee availability.

Adult lessons are available for all skill levels, including never-evers! First-time lessons are half-day, either 9:30am-12:30pm or 1:00pm-4:00pm, and include a limited ticket which can be upgraded to a full-mountain ticket for $20. For everyone else, lessons are from 10:00am-3:00pm and include lift tickets. As with the youth packages, there are discounts available for rental gear, and 20% discounts for booking three or more days in advance.

Private lessons are also available, both one-on-one and in small groups. Full day lessons are open to groups as large as six, and half-day morning or afternoon lessons accommodate groups as large as four. They recommend similar skill levels for everyone to get the most enjoyment out of their experience. There are discounted lift tickets and rental packages available, and booking in advance is always a good idea.

Like many resorts, Copper has seasonal programs, but those are usually more for locals than folks planning a trip. But Copper has a happy medium with lesson four-packs for both kids and adults. There are blackout dates, so be sure to check the school’s website carefully.

Ski Rental

Copper Mountain runs its own gear rental shops, called “Copper Sports.” You’ll find one conveniently located in each village, so no matter where you’re staying, one will be nearby. Rental options include performance gear, and you can find demo rentals at Copper Rocker in the Center Village. You can get fitted the day before, which is great for missing the morning crowds. Another rental shop worth stopping by because of its range is Christy Sports, which operates a store in Copper’s East Village.

Child Care

Copper’s childcare service, Belly Button Babies and Bakery, is available for little ones age 6 months to 6 years. Located in the Center Village’s Mountain Plaza building, they’re open from 8:30am to 4:00pm, giving mom and dad an entire day on the slopes while kids get lunch, a snack, naptime, and activities.

Copper also offers a free “Kids Night Out” for children age 3-12 as long as their grown-ups spend at least $30 in one of Copper’s village areas. This free three-hour child care service is available Wednesday through Saturday from 5:30pm-10:30pm. Reservations should be made at least 48 hours in advance, though walk-up requests may be accommodated on a space-available basis.

In-room babysitting service with more flexible hours and age limits is available through Resort Sitters and Mountain Sitters.

Ski Patrol

Ski patrol hut at Tucker

Copper Mountain has both full time and volunteer patrollers. They operate out of Copper One Lodge in the Center Village and huts at the top of Super Bee, Timberline Express, Mountain Chief, and Tucker Mountain. If you need assistance and no patrollers are nearby, they can be reached at (970) 968-3311, or send someone to find a resort employee such as a lift operator.

Health

There is a medical clinic in the Center Village, and for more serious injuries there is a hospital in Frisco, ten minutes away. That’s also where you’ll find physiotherapy services.

Banking

Alpine Bank operates a branch office in Copper Mountain’s Center Village. Lobby hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00am-12:00pm, plus a 24 hour ATM. There are additional ATMs throughout the villages, and credit cards are widely accepted.

Internet

There is Wi-Fi in all the condos and base areas. Cell service may be spotty up on the slopes, but coverage is good in the villages.

Supermarket

There’s a small market, McCoy’s, in the Center Village. It’s certainly convenient, but it’s not quite a full grocery store. For more comprehensive options when it comes to stocking up for your stay, Frisco has a Safeway, Wal-Mart, and Whole-Foods.
