Palace Hotel in Salida
Monarch Mountain, located in South Central Colorado, offers 800 acres of pristine skiing along the Continental Divide in the Sawatch Range within the San Isabel National Forest. The Palace Hotel in downtown Salida is the best place to stay when skiing Monarch. Salida is a super fun and friendly Colorado town, as popular in summer for fly fishing, boating and biking along the Arkansas River as skiing at Monarch Mountain. We loved staying at the gracious Palace Hotel, a beautifully restored 1909 boutique hotel right in town on F Street. The Palace Hotel Lobby serves as an art studio for a talented local painter - inspired by the beauty of Salida and the surrounding rivers and mountains.
The Palace Hotel has 14 spacious suites with views of the river and surrounding mountains. Our room at The Palace was perfect – spacious with a full kitchen, sitting area with couch and a sumptuous bed fit for a Queen – all top shelf with a sophisticated Victorian feel. For modernity – there is free WiFi and a flat screen TV, Coffee and amenities. Your breakfast at the Palace Hotel is practically palatial, fresh yogurt and homemade granola, sweet bread, coffee, and juices are delivered to your door with a knock when requested - before you hit the road for the 25 minutes to go ski Monarch Mountain.
Après ski, visit Salida’s art galleries and boutiques, then be sure to dine a block from The Palace Hotel at The Laughing Ladies Restaurant – named for the women of ill repute that entertained the men back in the heydays here. Culinary couple Margie and Chef Jeff work miracles on local beef, produce and fish flown in fresh at this lively bistro style restaurant. This cutesy cowboy town attracts artists and outdoor enthusiasts alike in winter and summer - it's quite contagious. The Palace Hotel location is steps from some great Salida dining, bars, shops and art galleries along F Street for your après ski enjoyment.
Salida is in the incredibly beautiful Chaffee County in central Colorado, on the eastern slope of the Rocky Mountains bordered on the West by the Sawatch Range, including the 14,000' Continental Divide, and the East by the Mosquito Range. The Arkansas River flows between these two magnificent mountain ranges. This high elevation area ranges from 7,000 to over 14,000' with spectacular scenery of the most 14,000-foot mountains in Colorado - known as the ”Fourteener” Region. Your drive will be a jaw dropper as you visit Monarch Mountain and Salida. Denver is 144 miles from Salida, Colorado Springs and Pueblo are 102 miles, and Gunnison is 65 miles from Salida.
