Santa Fe is the next resort that I would have chosen for the same reasons as Ski Apache but not listed.

I selected Ski Apache due to the fact that it is located nearby. I like what it has to offer for all ages. I like the shopping in Ruidosa and all lodging accomodations that it has.

It is a great town and not a total tourist town like many in Colorado. More locals than tourist.

Closest to home. Very friendly and curteous staff. Slopes for all ski levels. Great lift capacity.

I go to this resort (Ski Apache) because we have a home in the mountains in Ruidoso, NM. We live in Southern CA, so we usually go to Bear Mountain, Snow Valley, or Mountain High for day trips. We went to Mammoth Mountain this past January and the snow was awesome. We went to Whistler/Blackcomb last summer and enjoyed the mountain biking. As a resort, Whistler is fun. None of these resorts are convenient for driving or flying into.

SkiApache is not for everyone. It's small and the conditions can be hit or miss but most of the time, it is not crowded and you can ski to your heart's content. Unfortunately, no ski-in ski-out. You will have to stay in town and drive to the mountain. But it's very reasonably priced.
