Overview

The Good

  • Skiers only
  • High volume of light and fluffy snow - an average of over 500 in per year!
  • World-class extreme terrain
  • One of the best ski schools in the US
  • No-frills ski area; lift ticket prices are lower than most major US ski resorts

The Bad

  • Skiers only
  • Some old-school two-seat fixed chairs still operating
  • No-frills ski area; nightlife and shopping are a bit lacking

Find Freshies: Get your fix on the tree runs off the Wildcat lift; after a storm the area retains fresh powder for a day or two! All the bowls are also great for freshies. Easier-to-access bowls such as Ballroom and Devil's Castle get tracked out quickly so opt for the area between Greeley Bowl and Yellow Trail Area.

Ditch the Crowds: You won't find many crowds at Alta, but if you do, it'll probably be around Christmas time.

Local's Pick: Check out Rock n' Roll, a great curvy cruiser and other intermediate trails off the Supreme lift. For the more adventurous, the terrain off the High Traverse such as Race Course and Sunspot are sure to impress!

It is only about the powder in Alta. Not a phoo-phoo, umbrella drink, shopping place. No way! Alta is a secret I would prefer not to share with ANYONE!

Alta combines great terrain with incredible snow to make it one of the most reliable ski trip too take. Where else can you rip steep shots like keyhole and high rustler in 2 foot dumps on a fairly regular basis.

It is the best snow I have skied on to date and the attitudes of those in the area is the best I have experienced in my 27 years skiing.

Utah has the best snow, light powder. If you hit powder here, you have the best.

My husband & I don't get to go to Utah very often, but when we do, Alta is our #1 choice. Great snow, it's not so crowded, & the views are spectacular!

Alta has some great powder conditions and meetings the needs of intermediates of experts. There are some challenging groomers and plenty of opportunities to ski a variety of conditions.
