Overview of Heavenly Mountain Resort, California
Written by Greg and Heather Burke
Heavenly is the biggest resort in Lake Tahoe with over 4,800 acres - the most acreage in this region of 18 ski areas. Heavenly stretches into two states – California and Nevada, giving skiers and riders 3,500’ vertical from the 10,040’ summit - the biggest vertical drop in the western USA. Heavenly is a dichotomy, gorgeous with huge views of the Lake, and hidden gems of glade trails too.
Heavenly has tons of skiing and great lifts like the aerial tram, but the nightlife at South Shore beacons too with casinos, great restaurants, shopping, and clubs. Heavenly is owned by Vail Resorts (since 2002) and lifts and lodges have been upgraded. Heavenly is like “vertical Vegas” but it’s also perfect for a luxury Lake Tahoe ski trip with lots of lodging choices from chain hotels like Embassy Suites and Marriott, to Harvey’s and Montbleu Resort Casino and condo-style Aston Lakeland Village Resort.
Take the Tram to lunch at the Gunbarrel Grill for great fare and phenomenal views of Lake Tahoe from this spectacular mid-mountain lodge. Heavenly makes a great ski lodging base during your Lake Tahoe ski trip, you can enjoy the Heavenly après ski, nightlife, and plentiful South Lake ski lodging properties, and a day trip to nearby Kirkwood to the south, Alpine Meadows, Squaw Valley and Northstar to the northwestern side of the Lake Tahoe. Heavenly is now managed by Vail Resorts and part of the Vail's Epic Pass, so you can combine a Lake Tahoe trip with other Vail Resorts, Heavenly, Kirkwood, and Northstar.
Just about unsurpased beauty, the lake below, actually being above the clouds on some snow days, absolutly the best there is.
Heavenly also receives as much snow on a consistent basis as Mammoth. We enjoy the mountain and the town of Lake Tahoe.
