One of the top resorts in japan. Accessible in 3-4 hours drive from Tokyo area is perfect for a great weekend on abundant snow.. All the area is very well connected and offers many options from beginners to advanced level. Thanks to many lifts, waiting time is negligible. Highly recommended, not only if you live in japan. A growing number of... More

Shiga Kogen is a vast ski resort but whole of resort is accessible by skiing or great shuttle bus service. Would like to see more leg supports on chairs but gondolas are pretty good. Not too busy mid-week at all. Numerous ski-in ski-out options.... More

We really loved the Nagano area. We spent several days around the prefecture visiting monkey park, Obuse, Hokusai gallery and gardens. The snowboarding on Shiha Kogen was excellent. It was my wife’s first experience and she had so much fun.... More

Shiga Kogen with its huge number of resorts facing each other on both sides of a winding Valley mean that no matter the weather you're always sure to find a sheltered powder stash somewhere!... More

Everything about Shiga Kogen is perfect for a new snowboarder/skier. The runs are wide, with long sweeping mountains, the snow is firm, but soft enough to fall with relative ease. The surrounding area was just as nice, with great cheap local dining, an abundance of bars, and friendly locals. I'm looking forward to returning again soon with my... More

Thus was a great place to get a more Japanese experience of skiiing. Not many tourists and it boasts Japan's highest lift point! And it's still close enough to bus to the snow monkeys. Definitely worth checking out if you want to avoid the Hakuba crowds and get a more traditional experience!... More
