Ski Resorts in New York
New York features over 40 ski areas, which is actually more than in any other state. Whiteface, Windham and Gore Mountain tend to be very popular, and in the winter months offer some great skiing. Whiteface mountain is outside of Lake Placid, a few hour drive from NYC and was home to the winter olympics. At almost 5,000 ft, the mountain has long runs, 283 ac of terrain and off-piste double-black diamond wilderness terrain and also a great ski school for the kids. Windham mountain is another great option with 285 ac and just 2 hours from NYC.
- Fly into Albany International Airport for ski resorts including Hunter Mountain, Gore Mountain, Belleayre, Whiteface Mountain and Windham Mountain. JFK International Airport is also an option, although much further. For Peek'n Peak fly into Erie International Airport or for Greek Peak, fly into Syracuse Hancock International Airport.
- Best way to resorts from Albany International Airport is by renting a car and driving. The journey from Albany to Hunter Mountain, Gore Mountain, Belleayre, Whiteface Mountain and Windham Mountain can take anywhere between 1 to 2.5 hours. Belleayre and Windham Mountain are both closer to New York City, roughly a 2 to 2.5 hours away although train and bus services are also available. For ski resorts further away, the drive will take a minimum of 4 hours to Greek Peak from New York City and over 7 hours to Peek'n Peak. Alternatively, it’s less than hour from Erie International to Peek'n Peak and an hour from Syracuse Hancock to Greek Peak.
